Mason's First Vacation - August 6 - 16, 2009

Mason’s first vacation was spent in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and Ellsworth, Maine from August 6 – 16, 2009.

Mason, Mom, Dad and Grandma left Colorado Springs, CO on August 6, 2009. Mason flew wonderfully. No problems, whatsoever.

We arrived in Boston late and drove to Cape Cod. We were welcomed by Bumpa, Nana, Auntie Tracy, Uncle Eduardo and Uncle Patrick. It was quite late when we arrived, so we did a quick catch up and went to bed.

The next morning, Mason met his cousins, Ryan, Marina, Sienna, Auntie Kristen, Nani, Auntie Joanne and Leah. The day was spent at the beach and Mason really enjoyed being outside and getting a lot of attention.

When we finally returned home, Mason took to the pool with Daddy, Bumpa and Uncle Patrick. Mason took to the pool so well, that it sparked a competition as to who could swim more laps under water. Uncle Patrick won. :) The evening proved to be just as exciting, as Mason met Uncle Rollie, Donnie and Shea at dinner, followed by a trip to the batting cages. All the fellas, stepped into the 80mph batting cage and all the (smarter) ladies stepped into the slower cage. I think it’s fair to say that we all walked out a little injured, whether it be taking a ball to the foot or a watch scraping a hand or a swollen, bruised palm… we all had some ailment. Hahahaha!

The next day we drove to Ellsworth, Maine. Every morning was spent sitting on the porch with Dunkin Donuts coffee and donuts (thank you, Bumpa) and playing with Ryan and Mason. One morning was even filled with fishing for Mason and a dancing Ryan.

We enjoyed so many sites: Gooseneck Beach, Sand Beach, Branch Lake, Acadia Park, Bar Harbor, Jordon Pond and Uncle Jay and Aunt Pat’s backyard. All sites were equally beautiful and we had such a great time. I do believe my favorite site was Branch Lake. The water was absolutely gorgeous and you could see right to the bottom. Mason met Uncle Jay, Aunt Pat, Adam and Amanda on our trip to Branch Lake. We all enjoyed swimming, jumping from rocks, kayaking and just visiting. Mason even went swimming with Bumpa and daddy. Ryan enjoyed the water, as well. He was jumping from rocks and letting his daddy throw him up into the air. It truly was fun to watch everyone in the water.

Grandma, Nana and Bumpa snuck off one day and enjoyed the gardens in East Harbor (?). Although, we did not go, we do know that they had a very nice time looking at the gardens and then enjoyed a lovely dinner at Gailyns.

We were spoiled with all the delicious food in the area…. Lobster, scallops, haddock, lobster stew, popups (aka puffins… haha), clams on the half shell... My favorite was when everyone met to eat lobster. My first lobster…. We all contributed to the meal. We brought wine, guacamole dip, chips and salad to the restaurant. We ordered our lobsters and had a wonderful meal together. Afterwards, we all drove to Bar Harbor for some ice cream… one of just a few ice creams.

A couple other highlights for me was sitting on Auntie Pat and Uncle Jay’s porch… Of course, we each had our bug spray on, but we enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, wine and blueberry pie….. we also learned later what bumbleberry pie was… HA!

Another highlight was how taken Mason was to Uncle Jay. On one of the evenings that we went out to dinner, Mason spent the entire meal in Uncle Jay’s arms. We were all a bit taken when looking at the pictures and saw just how much Mason looked like a Devine.

… and I cannot NOT mention our S’mores evening. On one evening we all pulled up chairs and made S’mores on the campfire. Memories I will not soon forget.

When the week came to an end, Grandma, Mason, Daddy and myself drove to Boston. None of us were ready to leave. We got to Boston and decide to go to Salem. Well, we must have went the wrong way and ended up in downtown Boston. So we parked at Boston Common Park and enjoyed the sites. We walked around Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall (though, everything was closed). We ended our tour of downtown Boston with a nice dinner where we raised a glass to a great vacation.

The next morning…. A flight back to Colorado Springs and back to the real world.
