Isabel is 1 Month

Isabel is one month old today. She had her Pediatrician appointment this morning. She weighed in at 9 lbs, 3.2 ounches and is 21.5 inches long, which puts her at the 50th percentile in weight and 70th percentile in height. She is growing so fast. When we brought her home, Dad gave her the nickname "Peanut" because she was so tiny. We really didn't even notice her extra weight in her car seat. I noticed the other day that the car seat was noticeably heavier.

Isabel is a very sweet baby. She loves to be held, particularly in the evenings. She will sleep in her crib during the day; however, once the evening rolls around she wants to sleep in someone's arms. The evenings have been quite difficult given both Isabel's and Mason's schedule. Isabel will get up to eat and by the time you get her back to bed, Mason will wake up. By the time you get Mason back to sleep, Isabel gets up again. This goes on throughout the evening. So, you can see how easily we are losing sleep. We are working with both to get a good night time routine, but this is going to take time. In the meantime, we will have an exhausted household.

Isabel's daytime routine is much easier... probably because we are awake for the day. She sleeps most of the day and will only get up to eat or to be changed. My favorite trait this month is when she talks in her sleep. She sounds like a yelping puppy. I've been trying to capture her sleep sounds on video, but so far have been unsuccessful.

Isabel is a great eater. She has taken to breastfeeding very well. She has been eating every one to two hours, which we are trying to stretch out as her close feedings are a bit taxing on me. She will take a bottle, but she seems to be less fussy when she has breastfed. When bottle feeding, she will take 2 ounces. Anymore than that and she tends to spit up a bit.

Isabel likes bathing. She likes to feel the warm water and it seems to calm her. What she doesn't like, is getting out of the water. She hates to be naked, although she is getting better. She screams when you are getting her dressed after a bath, but is easily calmed once she is fully clothed or covered.

Isabel has started to smile and I believe we will begin to see more smiles as this next month progresses. She has a dimple on her right cheek, contorts her mouth and crinkles her forehead, which already make for some great expressions. So it will be fun to see these expressions evolve in the coming months.
