Today was Mason's first day of Preschool at Cherry Run Elementary. I am certain he was impressed and is looking forward to the school year, mostly because he gets to ride a school bus. Forget about a good education when you can simply ride around on a yellow school bus!
Mason was on the look out for the school bus all morning. In fact, he had us waiting, in the rain, outside for 15 minutes before the bus came. Though, it was fun watching him wait, and even more so, his reaction when he saw a school bus actually drive up the cul de sac. When that school bus approached, Mason just looked on as if he was in disbelief that a school bus was actually approaching... As if it was a dream coming true... it probably was because at his past daycare, they had a school bus that he would always stop to look at, but could never get on. He was finally able to get on a bus. What a day!
Once the school bus stopped in front of the house, he looked back at us for our acknowledgement that the school bus was actually there for him and then walked toward the bus and got right on. Just like a pro! No crying. No high five. He just got on, met the driver, the assistant and was seated.
His return home was less exciting. The bus pulled up. He got off. He watched as the bus left the cul de sac with a confused look on his face, as if he could not believe what had he had just experienced. We walked into the house. I went back to work, Mason took a nap.
According to the letter from the teacher, it was a good day, with the exception of his dislike of the tacos served at lunch.
I say today was a success.
