Baby's First Christmas

We had such a wonderful Christmas! Truly the most wonderful Christmas I have had in years and I am so very happy to introduce this wonderful tradition to our son.

Christmas Eve was a cold day. We spent it doing frivolous things like finishing laundry, doing dishes and packing clothes for the weekend... I also enjoyed watching the last three episodes of Season 5 of "Lost" (Have to catch up before the last season!).

My highlight of the day: Putting Mason in his Christmas Eve outfit, which didn't quite fit... The outfit SAID 9 months! Buuut didn't quite fit. Please notice, above, my baby in his short pants. We did learn that a 12 month is a much better fit.

Once Daddy got off of work, we drove to Pueblo West, CO to visit Pappa. He sure did spend quite a bit of time in the kitchen. Pappa cooked menudo, enchiladas, refried beans and ham. I have to admit that the Menudo was the best I have ever had. Such great company and a great Christmas Eve evening. Afterwards, we went to Gammy's house.

We went to Gammy's to await Christmas morning. We were welcomed by Great Grandpa Roy, Great Aunt Pam, Great Uncle Mike, Uncle Michael and Gammy. Great Auntie Pam was quickly put to work because Gammy can't seem to stop giving and had to finish up family calendars and homemade candy (for the entire family and friends of friends of friends of friends)... I'm not going to get into the organizing of candy boxes and pizzelles... Point is, Gammy had a lot to do. I could not keep up and had my eyes closed by 10pm... I caught Gammy up at 4am and she was ASKING to take care of Mason! I had to MAKE her go to bed (and "reluctantly" let her and Mason enjoy the rest of the 'evening/morning')!

We woke up and had our traditional Christmas keepsake of our picture at the top o' the stair before seeing what Santa brought... our new tradition of including Gammy.

Mason received blocks, linking logs, toys, books, a babushka hat... too much to mention! Although, he mostly enjoyed the paper and boxes...

After all gifts were received, Dad averted our attention to the living room where there were Daddy hand made gifts... Daddy allowed Mommy to pick the gift that she preferred.
Mommy must have picked the right one. We're engaged!

It's hard to top that Christmas morning but we persevered and had a wonderful feast of ham, brisket, pork loin, scallop potatoes, green bean casserole, frog eyed salad and the infamous Christmas jello, which was shared by my closest 26 relatives.

We drove from Canon City to Colorado Springs the next day, where we were spoiled with Daddy's family's gifts. Mason received toys, clothes, a savings bond, baby's first Christmas ornament and bath time gifts. He was a VERY spoiled boy! Mommy and Daddy were spoiled, as well! We wish we could be in Boston with the rest of the family but it just was not in the cards this year. We look forward to spending next Christmas with them, though. Our hearts and thoughts sure are with them and we love them very much.

Happy Holidays,

Matt, Missy, Mason

P.S. Mason still wears his Christmas Babushka... as a helmet!
